Sports News] According to reports from Italian media, the growth decree, which
was originally planned to be extended until February of the following year, has
been canceled. As a result, Italian clubs will not receive the financial
benefits associated with January signings. The use and extension of the growth
decree have been under discussion for several months, with the current Italian
government expressing a desire to completely repeal it. Initially, there were
hopes of extending the decree until February to incentivize activity during the
January transfer window. However, the plan has been abandoned, and the decree
is set to expire on December 31. The growth decree, implemented by the Italian
government, aimed to encourage foreign talent to come to Italy by offering
employers a discount of up to 50% on the tax payable on their wages. This
provision allowed Serie A clubs to potentially sign star players who would
otherwise be financially out of reach. Therefore, the cancellation of the
growth law will likely have a significant impact on many clubs’ transfer
strategies.
