[Saba Sports News] Ritika Sajdeh, the wife of Rohit Sharma, has expressed her sentiments towards a tribute posted by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) honoring Sharma’s tenure as captain. Rohit Sharma, who led Mumbai Indians (MI) for a decade, was succeeded by Hardik Pandya as the team’s captain on December 15, in preparation for the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
CSK highlighted Sharma’s leadership journey in a social media video, commemorating his achievement of leading the Mumbai team to five IPL championships, a record he shares with CSK’s captain MS Dhoni. CSK’s Instagram post, titled “2013 ➡️ 2023: A decade of spirited challenge! Much respect, Rohit!,” received a heartfelt yellow heart emoji response from Ritika.
Looking ahead to IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians have appointed Hardik Pandya as their new captain. The renowned all-rounder returns to the Mumbai team following a significant trade with Gujarat Titans, where he captained for the last two IPL seasons, including a championship win in 2022. Pandya is currently recuperating from an ankle injury incurred during a World Cup match against Bangladesh.
Mahela Jayawardene, MI’s Global Head of Performance, emphasized the significance of this change, noting it aligns with MI’s commitment to future readiness and legacy building. He acknowledged the franchise’s history of exceptional leadership, from Sachin Tendulkar to Harbhajan Singh, Ricky Ponting, and Rohit Sharma, all of whom have focused on both immediate success and long-term team development. Jayawardene affirmed that Pandya’s appointment as captain is a continuation of this forward-looking philosophy for the IPL 2024 season.
