[Saba Sports News] Despite a history of animosity between Rudy Gobert and Draymond Green, Gobert’s reaction to Green’s recent NBA suspension was unexpectedly understanding. The Minnesota Timberwolves center expressed sympathy towards the Golden State Warriors forward during his indefinite suspension.
Gobert, speaking with ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, conveyed his empathy for Green, recognizing the internal struggles Green might be facing. He emphasized the importance of well-being beyond the game, hoping for Green to find happiness and return to competing.
“I have empathy for him,” Gobert said, “You see somebody that’s not well inside and suffering. You take away the game and all that, and you want somebody to be well and be able to do what we do every night and compete and be happy.”
Gobert and Green have clashed in the past, notably earlier this season when Green engaged Gobert in a chokehold during a game, leading to one of Green’s two suspensions this season. Green’s current suspension is due to an incident where he hit Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face. The Warriors have committed to supporting Green before he rejoins the team. Gobert’s empathetic stance signifies a high-road approach, focusing on Green’s personal well-being amidst their professional rivalry.
