[Saba Sports News] The uncertainty surrounding the schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 continues as it is poised to coincide with the Lok Sabha elections. Reports suggest that the league is likely to commence on March 22, but the venue for the tournament is still under consideration.
IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal has put an end to the speculation, confirming that the IPL will indeed be hosted in India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to coordinate with the government to finalize the schedule once the dates for the general elections are announced. Dhumal emphasized the collaboration with the government and relevant agencies to ensure the league’s smooth operation within India, stating plans to organize matches in different states around the election schedule.
While Dhumal did not specify an exact start date for the tournament, he hinted at a late March beginning, taking into account that the general elections are slated for April. The BCCI’s approach involves adjusting the IPL schedule in harmony with the election timetable.
The 2024 edition of the IPL is set to feature 74 matches, including the playoffs, and may be divided into two phases to accommodate the general elections. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), led by MS Dhoni, will enter the tournament as the defending champions, having clinched their fifth title in 2023 by defeating the Gujarat Titans in a nail-biting finale.
The forthcoming season is anticipated to be MS Dhoni’s farewell to the IPL, with the iconic CSK captain aiming to secure a record sixth title for his team before retiring from the league.
