[Saba Sports News] Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Chet Walker has died at 84. The NBPA confirmed his passing on Saturday night. Walker’s NBA career spanned 13 seasons from 1962 to 1975.
Walker, a Bradley alum, began his NBA journey with the Syracuse Nationals, who drafted him 14th overall in 1962. As a rookie, he played alongside Hall of Famers Hal Greer, Dolph Schayes, and Larry Costello.
The Nationals moved to Philadelphia the following year, becoming the 76ers. Walker played six years with the Sixers, earning three All-Star nods and winning a championship in 1967, ending the Boston Celtics’ 8-year title streak. He was the team’s third-leading scorer behind Greer and Wilt Chamberlain.
In 1969, Walker was traded to the Chicago Bulls, where he made four All-Star teams over seven years, averaging 20.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists on 48.3% shooting.
Walker was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012.
