[Saba Sports News] The Splash Brothers may be no more, but a new duo is emerging.
The Golden State Warriors have officially moved on from the Klay Thompson era by completing a sign-and-trade deal for veteran sharpshooter Buddy Hield. With Thompson now a Dallas Maverick, Stephen Curry has a new backcourt partner in Hield.
Fans quickly dubbed the Curry-Hield pairing “The Splash Buddies.” This nickname is fitting not only for the pun but also because Hield, though not as close to Curry as Thompson was, is an excellent three-point shooter. Hield, the 2020 Three-Point Contest champion, boasts a 40.0 percent career average from beyond the arc and has made 1,051 threes over the last four seasons, second only to Curry’s 1,252.
While parting with Thompson was tough for Curry, who posted an emotional tribute to his longtime teammate, the hope is that Hield can help fill the void as Curry’s new “Splash Buddy” next season.
