[Saba Sports News] It was a one-man show for Team India on Day 1 for the second Test of the ongoing series against England being played in Visakhapatnam.
While Yashasvi Jaiswal carried the bat through the day, exuding both belligerence and patience, the rest of the Indian batters failed, allowing England to stay in the game.
After winning the toss, India opted to bat. Captain Rohit Sharma (14), who now often bats aggressively, went into a shell, eventually losing his wicket to debutant Shoaib Bashir.
Shubman Gill (34), who is struggling with the form, looked at ease throughout his stay at the crease. He found no trouble whatsoever in handling the spinners. However, James Anderson, who has had Shubman’s number in the past on a lot of occasions, ran his magic this time as well and dismissed India’s number three.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal remained unfazed, showing great temperament. He played a typical Test innings, picking the right deliveries to defend and attack.
Shreyas Iyer (27), Rajat Patidar (32) Axar Patel (27) and KS Bharat (17) – all received starts but failed to convert them in to a big score.
Despite a very little support from the other end, Jaiswal smashed a hundred, his second in the format and first at home. He remained unbeaten at 179 at stumps. India finished the day at 336/6.
