[Saba Sports News] After the application of Andretti Autosport to join F1 was rejected, Formula 1’s owner, Liberty Media Group, will be subjected to an antitrust investigation by the US Department of Justice. Liberty Media Group’s President and CEO Greg Maffei reiterated that F1’s decision complies with all applicable US antitrust laws and they will fully cooperate with the US Department of Justice’s investigation and comply with any information requests. In May of this year, Andretti Autosport CEO Mario Andretti appeared on Capitol Hill, prompting Republican Congressman Jim Jordan to write to F1’s owners, demanding an explanation of the decision-making process that prevented Andretti Autosport from participating and condemning Liberty Media Group for unfair practices. Andretti Autosport has long been committed to becoming the 11th team in F1, partnering with the Cadillac brand under General Motors, establishing a base at the Silverstone circuit, and conducting large-scale recruitment, including former F1 Chief Technical Officer Pat Symonds. Some fans have expressed that no F1 team wants Andretti Autosport to join because it would mean they have to share the prize pool with the new team.
