[Saba Sports News] The Los Angeles Dodgers secured a spot in the NLCS with a stellar pitching performance, defeating the San Diego Padres 2-0 in a high-stakes Game 5 at Dodger Stadium on Friday.
The Dodgers held the Padres to just two hits, with plenty of celebrities watching, including Lakers star LeBron James.
James cheered on the Dodgers from start to finish and shared his excitement on social media afterward, posting, “Congrats @Dodgers on Advancing to NLCS!!!!” on X (formerly Twitter).
James, back in L.A. after a preseason game in Milwaukee, will remain on the West Coast with the Lakers until their regular season opener on Oct. 22 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Dodgers, who faced elimination just days ago, relied on their pitching staff to carry them past the Padres.
In Game 4, a bullpen game, eight pitchers combined for a shutout in an 8-0 win. Game 5 saw starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto rebound from a rough Game 1, throwing five scoreless innings, with four relievers pitching a perfect four innings to seal the win.
Now, the Dodgers gear up for the NLCS against the New York Mets, beginning Sunday in Los Angeles. If their pitchers stay hot, they’ll be tough to beat this postseason.
