[Saba Sports News] The Phoenix Suns are reportedly eyeing a significant upgrade to their roster, both in size and impact.
As they prepare for their Christmas Day matchup against the Denver Nuggets, the Suns sit at 14-14, embodying mediocrity with a downward trend. They’ve dropped six of their last eight games, including a 117-90 blowout loss to the Nuggets on Monday—their worst defeat of the season.
With the team underperforming, the Suns are reportedly exploring trade options for starting center Jusuf Nurkic.
According to reports, Phoenix is interested in upgrading at the center position, with Chicago’s Nikola Vucevic and Washington’s Jonas Valanciunas emerging as potential targets.
Nurkic has struggled this season, averaging just 9.1 points per game on 45.5% shooting—his worst marks since 2015-16. Monday’s game against Denver highlighted his difficulties, as he logged just four points and four rebounds in 15 minutes.
Defensively, the slow-footed Nurkic has been a liability, frequently exploited by opponents.
The Suns have also been linked to Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler, but acquiring Butler would likely require Bradley Beal to waive his no-trade clause.
Recent reports, however, suggest that a deal for Butler may not materialize, pushing the Suns to focus on other options.
