[Saba Sports News] Dallas Mavericks fans were outraged when Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, and it appears a member of the coaching staff felt the same way.
According to Marc Stein, Mavericks assistant coach Marko Millic has decided to leave the team following the blockbuster trade.
Millic, a fellow Slovenian, reportedly did not want to stay with the Mavs now that Doncic is no longer part of the organization.
A trailblazer for Slovenian basketball, Millic became the first player from his country to play in the NBA when he suited up for the Phoenix Suns during the 1997-98 season.
He was teammates with Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd during that time and again in 1999. Kidd later brought Millic onto his coaching staff in 2022, further strengthening the connection between Millic and Doncic.
Before joining the Mavericks, Millic was the manager of Slovenia’s national team, where he coached Doncic. His deep ties to the young star made his departure from Dallas even more significant.
The Mavericks stunned the NBA world by trading Doncic to the Lakers last weekend, and the backlash from fans has been intense. Some supporters have gone to extreme lengths to express their frustration with the franchise’s decision.
