[Saba Sports News] Comedian George Lopez recently shared a classic Michael Jordan moment while appearing on Byron Scott’s Fast Break podcast.
During a visit to Jordan’s exclusive golf course, The Grove XXIII, in Florida, one of Lopez’s friends, Brian, made the rookie mistake of showing up in Pumas—and MJ wasted no time calling him out.
“We’re in the locker room, drinking and laughing, and MJ gets up and says, ‘Hey Georgie, come back anytime, my place is your place.’ Then he looks at Brian’s shoes and goes, ‘You know, we sell Nikes in the Pro Shop. I know those s**ts are hurting your feet, we got Jordans in the Pro Shop.’”
Lopez and the rest of the group erupted with laughter, realizing that this wasn’t just a brand rep or some Nike executive—it was the ‘Jumpman’ himself delivering the roast.
This wasn’t the first time Jordan enforced his loyalty to Nike with extreme prejudice. Back in the ‘80s, he once found Puma gear in a friend’s closet and shredded it with a knife before demanding Nike replace everything.
He even confiscated New Balance shoes from a friend and once made former NBA player Tim Thomas change out of Adidas before stepping foot in his house.
Given Jordan’s history, Brian was lucky he just got roasted—he could have lost his shoes entirely. Safe to say, he won’t be wearing Pumas around MJ again.
