[Saba Sports News] The Los Angeles Lakers received some positive news regarding standout guard Austin Reaves’ injury.
Reaves suffered a calf injury during the first quarter of Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers at Crypto.com Arena, playing just nine minutes before being ruled out.
However, an MRI over the weekend “revealed no serious injury,” according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Reaves is considered day-to-day and is questionable for Sunday’s rematch against the Clippers.
This is a huge relief for the Lakers, who have relied heavily on Reaves as a key contributor both before and after the Luka Dončić trade. Dončić himself knows how tricky calf injuries can be, having missed 22 games earlier this season with a similar issue.
Reaves has emerged as a breakout star in his fourth NBA season, averaging 19.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists on 44.7% shooting through 53 games. He has also earned the trust of LeBron James—no small feat in itself.
Durability has been one of Reaves’ strengths, as he rarely misses games. Earlier this season, he took a hard fall and injured his back during a November matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder but returned after just five games—the only time he has been sidelined this season.
