[Saba Sports News] The FIA will implement a new technical directive in the 2025 F1 season, imposing stricter limitations on flexible front and rear wings. Red Bull Racing advisor Dr. Helmut Marko described the move as “insane” and strongly opposed the decision, arguing that rule changes should occur at the start or end of the season, not mid-season. Marko acknowledged that mid-season rule changes would favor reigning champion Verstappen. The so-called flexible wings refer to front and rear wings that deform under aerodynamic pressure, a technology utilized by teams such as McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes to enhance car performance. However, the FIA is concerned that the existing testing methods cannot accurately measure the degree of wing deformation. Thus, the new regulations will be enforced after the ninth race of the 2025 season, the Spanish Grand Prix, to restrict the flexibility of both front and rear wings. Currently, every team, except the smaller ones, has developed bendable front wings. For the larger teams, significant investments made in these technologies without the ability to utilize them on the cars would undoubtedly deal a huge blow.
