[Saba Sports News] Paul Pierce may want to start stretching — his bold guarantee just came crashing down.
Appearing on FS1’s Speak on Wednesday, the former Celtics legend confidently predicted a Boston win in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference semifinal against the New York Knicks. Pierce was so certain of the outcome that he vowed to walk 15 miles to the FS1 studios barefoot, wearing only a robe, if the Celtics lost.
“I’m walking here. 15 miles. In my robe. No shoes on. Barefeet. If the Celtics lose tonight. I’m walking,” Pierce declared.
Naturally, the basketball gods had other plans. Boston blew a 20-point lead and lost 91-90, falling into a 2-0 hole in the series. Almost immediately, Pierce became meme material, with fans flooding social media with hilarious edits imagining his robed walk of shame.
This marked the second straight comeback win for the Knicks in Boston to open the series — something that has quickly become their calling card.
“We’ve got to respond,” said Celtics star Jaylen Brown following the defeat.
As for Pierce, he doesn’t seem too thrilled. He posted a map on X (formerly Twitter) showing the 20.2-mile route he’d need to walk, estimated to take just over eight hours. Now the question remains: will Pierce actually follow through on his robe-clad journey?
