[Saba Sports News] “Cancun” jokes are a common jab aimed at NBA players whose teams have been bounced from the playoffs — a way of saying they’re off on vacation while the postseason continues.
Draymond Green and the Warriors were eliminated in the second round this year by the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games, making him a prime target.
But Green, never one to shy away from hecklers, had a sharp response ready.
A viral video that surfaced over the weekend captured the Golden State Warriors forward engaging with a fan at Madison Square Garden in New York. The exchange took place earlier in the week during the Knicks-Pacers Eastern Conference Finals matchup, where Green was on-site working as a guest analyst for TNT’s Inside the NBA.
In the clip, a heckler wearing a Knicks jersey shouted at Green from near the TNT broadcast setup, repeatedly yelling, “How was Cancun?” Security appeared to hold the fan back as he continued the taunt.
Green fired back without hesitation: “Can you afford to go?”
The back-and-forth is just the latest example of Green’s history of confronting hecklers head-on. Considering his past run-ins with fans — including one infamous incident that ended with a slap — this one was relatively tame. But the mix of Draymond Green and New York basketball energy delivered exactly the kind of moment you’d expect.
