[Saba Sports News] Dwight Howard, after an 18-year NBA career, has found himself without a team in the last two seasons and appears to be facing an uphill battle in his efforts to make a comeback. Amid the Detroit Pistons’ extensive losing streak, Howard took to social media to post a video suggesting a lineup of ten NBA veterans, currently not in the league, who he believed could help the Pistons secure a win. His list included players like Blake Griffin and John Wall, with a bench featuring names like Kemba Walker and Lance Stephenson.
At the time of Howard’s post, the Pistons were suffering a 27-game losing streak, which has since extended to 28 games, tying the record for the longest losing streak in NBA history across two seasons. Despite showing potential in a recent game against the Boston Celtics, where they initially led by 19 points, the Pistons ultimately lost in overtime.
Howard’s proposed lineup, however, might not fare well in the current NBA landscape. Many of the players he named have struggled to return to the league, with some, like Isaiah Thomas, actively seeking teams on social media. Howard and DeMarcus Cousins have not had significant success internationally in recent times. Blake Griffin and John Wall, who played last season, seem like the most viable candidates for an NBA return. Kemba Walker is currently playing for AS Monaco, while Michael Beasley and Lance Stephenson have been out of the NBA limelight for some time.
Howard’s suggestion seems more playful than serious, as many of these veterans are often the subject of social media memes about their efforts to remain in the NBA. While a comeback akin to Dante Exum’s success in Europe may be possible for some, the age and current status of the players Howard mentioned suggest that such a return might be challenging.
