[Saba Sports News] Denver Nuggets’ star center Nikola Jokic, currently hailed as one of the top basketball players globally, has distinct plans for life after his NBA career. In a conversation with teammate Michael Porter Jr. on Porter’s “Curious Mike” podcast, Jokic opened up about his perspective on fame and his aspirations post-retirement.
Jokic expressed his discomfort with fame, revealing a desire for complete anonymity once his professional playing days are over. He emphasized wanting to be recognized primarily as a good father, focusing on living in the moment, and aspiring to live a life without relying on a cell phone. “When I finish my career, I really wish nobody knows me,” Jokic stated. “I wish my kid in the future… really knows me as a dad and not as a basketball player. And to not have a phone. I think that’s another big goal of mine. Just to be in the moment.”
The Nuggets star also criticized the current societal tendency to record life events rather than experiencing them fully. He finds it disrespectful when people film him during ordinary activities, as he prefers not to be the center of attention outside the basketball court.
At 28, Jokic is in the peak of his career, a 5-time All-Star likely to contend for championships in the coming years. However, once he retires, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him exchange the limelight of championship celebrations for a quieter life, possibly enjoying horse races with his daughter.
