[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media reports, Barcelona has formally reached an agreement with Oriol Romeu to terminate his contract. Barcelona stated in an announcement: “FC Barcelona and first-team player Oriol Romeu have reached an agreement during the transfer window to terminate the player’s contract with the club. FC Barcelona thanks Oriol Romeu for his professionalism, dedication, and commitment, and wishes him the best of luck and success in the future.” Oriol Romeu returned to FC Barcelona from Girona in the 2023/24 season. The midfielder donned the Blaugrana jersey again after leaving La Masia in the 2010/11 season. He joined Barcelona’s youth system in 2004, progressed through various age groups, and eventually made his first-team debut under Pep Guardiola. His outstanding performance at Girona in the 2022/23 season paved the way for his return to Barcelona. Romeu started the 23/24 season strongly as a starting defensive midfielder with excellent performances but later lost his starting position due to factors including a knee injury. Oriol Romeu made a total of 37 appearances for Barcelona, starting 17 games, and accumulating 1,435 minutes of playing time. This experience also lays the groundwork for Oriol Romeu’s potential return to Girona.
