[Saba Sports News] Rich Paul and Klutch Sports, while influential in Los Angeles, don’t share the same rapport with another key NBA market. Ian Begley of SportsNet New York has reported that the New York Knicks are showing interest in Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray, a Klutch client. However, a significant hurdle exists: Paul’s reported hesitancy to engage in business with the Knicks.
This reluctance is attributed to the history between Klutch and the Knicks’ top executives, President Leon Rose and Executive Vice President William Wesley, who were previously leading agents at Creative Arts Agency (CAA), Klutch’s rival. Klutch is also said to have resisted a proposed 2022 trade involving Chicago Bulls All-Star Zach LaVine, another Klutch client, to the Knicks.
However, the report suggests that Klutch might reconsider its stance if a face-to-face meeting between Paul and Knicks management occurs. Begley’s detailed report can be found on SportsNet New York’s website.
Historically, Klutch has had minimal engagement with the Knicks, with few of their collaborations ending amicably. The root cause of this “cold war,” as Begley describes it, between Klutch and the Knicks, whether it be an old rivalry or something deeper, remains unclear. Nonetheless, it might be in both parties’ interest to resolve their differences and explore potential business opportunities together.
