[Saba Sports News] The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has approved Gregoria Mariska Tunjung’s application for injury ranking protection, which will be effective for three months to a year, starting December 30, 2025. The Indonesian Badminton Association submitted this ranking protection request in accordance with BWF regulations, citing that Mariska suffers from vertigo and requires ongoing medical treatment and a reasonable recovery period, making her temporarily unable to participate in various international events on the BWF tournament calendar.
The BWF approved the application based on the assessment results and submitted documentation. The Indonesian Badminton Association hopes that this ranking protection will allow Mariska to recover smoothly and return to the court under the guidance and advice of her support team, continuing to contribute to Indonesia’s performance in international events.
With Mariska applying for ranking protection, she will withdraw from the Malaysia Badminton Open scheduled for January 6. In last year’s Malaysia Open, Mariska had an average performance, losing to China’s Wang Zhiyi in the second round of women’s singles with a score of 0-2, thus missing the quarterfinals.
