[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, former Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton is embroiled in legal troubles, which have cost him around £1 million and left him in a financial crisis. During his playing career, Barton was branded a “hard man” and has not changed much since retiring. Last Friday, Joey Barton was denied bail after being charged with grievous bodily harm in connection with a brawl at a golf club. Previously, Barton was ordered to pay substantial compensation and legal costs following malicious social media comments directed at presenter Jeremy Van and commentator Eni Aluko. At present, Joey Barton Promotions Limited, his image rights company, has accumulated debts of £76,273. In addition, Barton received heavy fines from tax authorities over investments in four film schemes deemed to be tax avoidance. Barton owns an energy management consultancy called Resolve Energy, which has outstanding loans of £1.8 million.
The editor believes that Barton is facing huge trouble, and this is simply because he has become embroiled in too many lawsuits. Each lawsuit costs thousands of pounds in legal fees, and if he loses, his situation will become even worse.
