[Saba Sports News] Although she hasn’t had any standout achievements in the past two years, 30-year-old Indian former world champion Pusarla Venkata Sindhu still has a dream: to win a medal at this year’s Badminton World Championships held in her hometown of New Delhi, India.
Sindhu is the first player from India to win the women’s singles title at the Badminton World Championships. Throughout her career, she has secured two bronze medals (in 2013 and 2014), two silver medals (in 2017 and 2018), and one championship (in 2019), making her the record holder for the most medals by a female singles player at the World Championships. She is also the only badminton player in Indian history to win a gold medal at the World Championships.
Recently, Sindhu stated in an interview that she has gone through numerous lows in recent years. While battling injuries, she has come to understand that the support of her family, especially her husband, is crucial. After every injury, thoughts of retirement would cross her mind, but she feels reluctant to give up. As a result, she has worked hard to develop a strong mindset, deciding to pursue her interests. Therefore, as long as she remains injury-free, she plans to continue competing for a few more years.
Sindhu candidly expressed her dream of winning another championship at the World Championships, especially with this year’s event taking place in New Delhi, hoping to stand on the podium once more. Additionally, she is confident about achieving more success at the upcoming Asian Games in Nagoya this year.
