[Saba Sports News] The Pretoria Capitals have recently announced that their lead pacer, Anrich Nortje, will miss the entire SA20 tournament starting January 10 in Gqeberha. Notably, Nortje has been out of action since September 2023, also missing the ODI World Cup 2023 and the tour of South Africa by India. His ongoing back issues have prolonged his absence, a development shared by Pretoria Capitals on their X (formerly Twitter) account.
The team expressed their wishes for Nortje’s swift recovery in their post. Nortje’s back injury originated during South Africa’s ODI series against Australia in September 2023. In response to his absence, Pretoria Capitals have brought in experienced all-rounder Hardus Viljoen as a replacement. Interestingly, this marks the second consecutive year Viljoen has been an injury replacement in the SA20, having previously filled in for the Joburg Super Kings in the
inaugural season.
As the SA20 2024 season approaches, Pretoria Capitals are preparing to face the Paarl Royals in their opening match at Boland Park, Paarl, on January 12. Despite Nortje’s absence, the team is focused on starting strong and securing an early victory.
The Pretoria Capitals squad for SA20 includes players like Migael Pretorius, Jimmy Neesham, Rilee Rossouw, Colin Ingram, and captain Wayne Parnell, alongside others, promising a competitive lineup for the upcoming tournament.
