[Saba Sports News] England announced their squad for the upcoming five-match away Test series against India, starting on January 25.
Among the 16 names announced, Ben Stokes hogged the limelight as there was uncertainty on his availability for the series.
The England Test skipper underwent a left knee surgery recently and has started the recovery process with still over six weeks remaining for the highly-anticipated series versus India.
While he is expected to get fit enough to take part in the first Test match, he will only play as a batter throughout the assignment, England director of cricket Rob Key informed.
Due to his knee issues, the all-rounder bowled a handful of overs in the Ashes 2023, while he featured in the recently-concluded ODI World Cup, playing purely as a batter.
The opening Test will commence on January 25 in Hyderabad. The remaining matches will be held in Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamsala.
