[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, Hollywood stars and partners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have sold a portion of their stake in Wrexham Football Club to Apollo Global Management. This sports giant is making strides into the football sector, recently acquiring a majority stake in Atlético Madrid. By purchasing a small share of this Welsh club, Apollo is adding Wrexham to its investment portfolio. Apollo Global Management is valued at an astonishing $900 billion and has plans in place for the club.
The club’s home ground, the Racecourse Ground, is set for redevelopment, and Apollo will provide the necessary funding for this project. If the UK successfully bids for the rights, they hope the stadium will host matches for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2035. This is not the first collaboration between Reynolds, McElhenney, and Apollo’s leadership. Al Tylis, the president of the Mexican club Necaxa, who previously was a member of the investment consortium for Colombia’s La Equidad club, is also a partner, and Reynolds and McElhenney have invested in that club as well.
