[Saba Sports News] During the previous European Championship round of 16, Turkey defeated Austria 2-1, securing a spot in the quarterfinals with Merih Demiral’s two goals. However, Demiral’s celebration, which involved the “Grey Wolf” gesture, sparked controversy. The “Grey Wolf” gesture is associated with the far-right ultra-nationalist organization of the same name in Turkey. This organization promotes the unity and restoration of the Turkic nation and is closely tied to the Turkish government. In Germany, the gesture is associated with Nazis and the far right. When asked about his celebration gesture, Demiral stated that it was related to his Turkish identity and that he was happy about scoring two goals.
