[Saba Sports News] With all the injuries that pile up during the postseason, LeBron James recently floated the idea of giving NBA teams a full month off before the playoffs. While some might support the move, Warriors forward Draymond Green isn’t one of them — and he explained why on his podcast.
“I know Bron mentioned a month off before the playoffs, but I don’t know if that’s realistic,” Green said. “Guys might get out of shape, and it could backfire. You step back on the court and suddenly pull something because you’ve been off for so long.
“I don’t think a month is the answer, but two weeks? No NBA player is getting out of shape in two weeks, and you can get a lot healthier.”
A full month might be excessive, but a shorter break — or spacing out playoff games more — could be beneficial. Green pointed out that the current every-other-day format doesn’t give players much time to recover, especially with long travel between games.
“You’ve got Steph pulling a hamstring, Aaron Gordon saying there should be two days between games — I agree,” Green added. “If you’re flying from San Francisco to Houston on your ‘rest day,’ you land at 8 p.m., get to the hotel late — the recovery isn’t great.”
While reducing the 82-game regular season remains unlikely, Green suggests the league could at least give playoff teams more time to recover and prepare for the grueling stretch ahead.
