[Saba Sports News] Dwight Howard had some pointed advice for Giannis Antetokounmpo on Monday, just as speculation began swirling about the Bucks star’s future.
A report emerged that Antetokounmpo is open to the idea of leaving Milwaukee, following another early playoff exit for the Bucks. In response, Howard took to X (formerly Twitter) with a message, “Don’t leave Giannis coming from someone who been there.”
Though the post lacked proper punctuation, Howard’s meaning was clear — he was urging Antetokounmpo to learn from his experience.
Howard, the No. 1 overall pick in 2004, spent his first eight seasons with the Orlando Magic. After missing the playoffs in his first two years, Howard led the team to six straight postseason appearances, including an NBA Finals run in 2009. But after pushing for the exit — and the departure of head coach Stan Van Gundy — Howard left Orlando and never quite found the same success again.
His stint with the Lakers flopped, and though he had some productive years in Houston, he eventually became a journeyman. His peak remained firmly tied to his time in Orlando.
While Antetokounmpo may be frustrated with the Bucks’ recent struggles — including first-round exits and a failed Jrue Holiday-for-Damian Lillard swap — Howard’s message is clear: stay patient. The Bucks won it all in 2021, and Howard is warning Giannis that chasing something better can often backfire.
