[Saba Sports News] The FIA has recently opened a bidding process to recruit new manufacturers for HALO equipment. This is part of their initiative to reduce the weight of the new generation of F1 racing cars. HALO, a vital piece of equipment that protects the driver, must maintain its weight and rigidity to ensure safety. The bidding documents specify that the new generation titanium alloy HALO should weigh a minimum of 6 kilograms, which is 1 kilogram lighter than the current HALO. The manufacturer’s design will undergo three static tests and must withstand at least 12.7 tons of pressure. HALO equipment plays a crucial role in ensuring the driver’s safety and provides adequate head protection. It is nicknamed “flip-flops” due to its appearance. In addition to HALO, there are other safety devices such as the Hans system (HANS) that support the driver’s neck during collisions, reducing the risk of neck injuries.
