[Saba Sports News] Jason Kidd offered an eyebrow-raising comment this week while addressing the Dallas Mavericks’ infamous trade of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers—a deal so shocking, many initially thought the news was fake.
Doncic, now thriving in LA, returned to Dallas on Wednesday for the first time since the February 2nd trade that stunned the basketball world. Ahead of the matchup, Kidd told reporters it was “cool” that some people were comparing the trade to the legendary Babe Ruth deal.
The problem? He seemed completely unaware of just how disastrous that comparison is.
The Red Sox’s 1919 sale of Ruth to the Yankees is widely considered the worst trade in sports history. It kicked off an 86-year championship drought for Boston, while the Yankees became a baseball empire. Calling that “cool” is… not exactly the flex Kidd may have thought it was.
As Doncic dropped 45 points in a Lakers win, Dallas sat 10th in the West at 38-41, clinging to a Play-In spot. Meanwhile, the Lakers are surging toward the playoffs as the No. 3 seed.
Let’s hope for Mavericks fans’ sake that Kidd’s “Babe Ruth” comment doesn’t end up being a painful prophecy.
