[Saba Sports News] LeBron James’ dream of teaming up with his son Bronny in the NBA has come true, but seven years ago, he had a more humorous vision for his son’s potential NBA career.
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Shortly after, a 2017 interview LeBron had with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin resurfaced on NBA Reddit. In it, LeBron joked about playing against Bronny rather than with him, saying he would foul the ‘s–t’ out of him.
“I know I won’t be able to play at this level forever,” LeBron said in 2017. “But I damn sure would love to stick around if my oldest son can have an opportunity to play against me. That’d be the icing on the cake right there. I’ll foul the s— out of him! I’d give him all six fouls. I’d foul the s— out of Bronny, man.”
At the time, LeBron was 32 and Bronny was 13, making the idea seem less realistic. However, LeBron was open to joking about it. Now, approaching his age-40 season, LeBron continues to defy time. Last season, he averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists on 54% shooting and a career-high 41% from three-point range.
LeBron has openly discussed his motivation to stay in shape to one day play with Bronny. This season, the father-and-son duo will get that opportunity.
