[Saba Sports News] LeBron James shared his perspective on why the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Speaking on the latest episode of his Mind the Game podcast, James said the Lakers simply ran into a tough and unfavorable matchup.
“When it comes to the postseason, matchups sometimes just don’t determine how well of a regular season you had. We ran into a damn good matchup,” he explained. “A team that’s been battle-tested, a team that’s hungry, a team with a lot of youth but also experience at the same time, and another team that’s trying to make the next step. They were a worthy opponent, that’s for sure.”
The Timberwolves’ size and physicality, particularly with Rudy Gobert anchoring the paint, posed consistent problems for the undersized Lakers. James acknowledged that Minnesota’s energy and hunger to advance may have given them an extra edge.
While the Lakers had their own motivation, James admitted that Minnesota’s desire to take the next step showed — and it may have ultimately made the difference.
