[Saba Sports News] LeBron James addressed the press following Team USA’s gold medal victory over France at the Olympics, emphasizing how much they wanted and earned this moment.
Reflecting on last year’s disappointing FIBA World Cup performance, LeBron mentioned that the team was quickly assembled to redeem the nation’s basketball reputation on the global stage.
“We got our moment. This is what we wanted. We didn’t like the way we played last summer, so we put together this team very fast,” James said.
After Team USA’s struggles in the FIBA World Cup, LeBron and Stephen Curry reportedly decided to commit to playing in the 2024 Olympics.
They were soon joined by Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, forming a powerhouse team that reminded the world of USA’s basketball dominance. Despite facing one of the toughest lineups in Olympic history, with 61 non-American NBA players in the tournament, Team USA proved their mettle.
LeBron had a standout performance, scoring 14 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, dishing out 10 assists, and adding 1 block and 2 steals. Consistent throughout the tournament, he averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 0.3 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game, earning the Olympics MVP title, making him the second player to achieve this honor since its introduction, alongside Kevin Durant.
LeBron also extended his unbeaten streak in winner-take-all games since 2008, capping off a remarkable tournament even in his late 30s.
