[Saba Sports News] Nine-time NBA All-Star Paul George believes he knows what Anthony Edwards needs to reach the next level after the Minnesota Timberwolves’ latest playoff exit.
Edwards made significant strides this season, particularly on offense.
The 23-year-old guard averaged a career-high 27.6 points per game and became a lethal three-point shooter, leading the NBA with 320 threes made on nearly 40% shooting.
Throughout his five-year career, Edwards has consistently used the offseason to evolve his game. With another pivotal summer ahead, George offered some advice on a recent episode of his Podcast P show: develop a post game.
“He’s gotta develop a post game where he can let the game slow down,” George said. “Where he can get to one dribble, raise up, and shoot. That helps players get into a rhythm better — starting closer in without drawing double teams just to get space.
“Get to the elbow, the mid-post, where you can see the whole floor and play from there. I think that’s the next evolution for Ant.”
George may be drawing from personal experience guarding LeBron James in the early 2010s, when James famously expanded his offensive arsenal with a post game during his time with the Miami Heat. George’s Indiana Pacers faced LeBron’s Heat three times in the playoffs during that era.
The added skill set helped James capture his first two NBA titles — and perhaps George sees a similar path for Edwards.
This offseason looms large for Minnesota, especially with reports suggesting the team is aiming to pair Edwards with a former MVP-level talent in pursuit of a deeper playoff run.
