[Saba Sports News] According to British media, Premier League referees will crack down on intentional pulling, and penalties may increase. Referees have been told to strictly penalize intentional pulling, which could lead to more penalty kicks from corner kicks. They are asked to pay close attention to players using their arms to block opponents, focusing on them rather than the ball, and pulling to hinder attackers during set pieces. This new directive comes after several controversial incidents last season and received support from top clubs. These clubs believe referees have been too lenient toward intentional pulling, which is often referred to as the “dark art” of football. A strict stance has been communicated to players, who have been told to expect a foul call. If a penalty is given, VAR can review the decision, and if there is a clear error, it can suggest that the referee change their decision. Also, fake diving will be targeted, and for major decisions, referees can use the “captain-only” approach, inviting the captain to explain their thoughts. The captain must also guide protesting teammates away from the referee. If the captain is a goalkeeper, another player on the field can be designated to act on his behalf.
