[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media reports, a Real Oviedo fan has been arrested for making racist gestures towards Kylian Mbappe during the second league round match when Real Madrid was playing away. Reports state that besides making racist gestures, the fan also imitated monkey noises. After being identified through video analysis, he was arrested on suspicion of crimes against moral integrity and hate crimes. Furthermore, police have recommended administrative sanctions against him under the Law Against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia, and Intolerance in Sports, which stipulates fines between €60,000 and €650,000 for serious offenses, along with a ban from sports venues. The General Police Directorate added that the investigation details have been communicated to the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Criminal Protection against Discrimination and Guarantee of Equality. This office handles hate crime cases. According to the relevant provisions of the Penal Code, such crimes can carry a maximum sentence of three years imprisonment. In response, Real Oviedo club stated: “This club firmly opposes any form of violence, racism, xenophobia, and intolerance in sports and will take the most severe measures in accordance with the law to eradicate such behavior.”
