[Saba Sports News] The Aston Martin’s brand new AMR26 for the 2026 season made its debut on the track in Barcelona but did not run smoothly, completing only five laps before the testing was concluded early for preventive technical considerations. On the second-to-last day of the Barcelona test, the highly anticipated AMR26 finally made its first appearance. Designed under the lead of Adrian Newey, this new car is seen as a significant entry for Aston Martin into the new regulatory era of 2026. As Newey has continued to focus on the development of the new car, Aston Martin has confirmed a delay in starting the testing plan for the 2026 season. The team arranged for the AMR26 to make its debut only about an hour before the end of the day’s testing. Lance Stroll drove the new car, which was particularly crucial for the team due to the failure to complete filming and showcasing prior to the Barcelona test week. With about 16 minutes remaining in the testing time, Stroll went back out for a brief run, but the overall pace was rather conservative, with his fastest lap about 30 seconds slower than that of the leading Mercedes driver George Russell at the time. Despite the limited running on the first day, Aston Martin still plans to continue testing on the final day of the Barcelona tests, with Fernando Alonso taking the wheel of the AMR26.
