The NBA released a statement Thursday addressing a shocking report that connects Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier to the illegal betting scheme that resulted in Jontay Porter’s lifetime ban.
Rozier is reportedly under federal investigation for a potential connection to the illegal gambling ring linked to former NBA player Jontay Porter.
Porter allegedly sent messages to bettors during games he was playing, according to newly released court documents.
A significant prison sentence may be on the horizon for Jontay Porter.
“The proposed modification would allow Mr. Porter to pursue a very fortunate — and quickly diminishing — opportunity to earn income through his primary skillset,” the letter read.
Porter pleaded guilty on Wednesday in New York to a charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Porter is facing serious legal trouble following his lifetime ban from the NBA due to a sports betting scandal.
