[Saba Sports News] Philadelphia 76ers’ star center Joel Embiid is set to miss significant playing time due to a torn meniscus in his left knee. Embiid’s absence was notably felt during the Sixers’ recent game against the Nuggets, where he was a last-minute withdrawal, leading to widespread speculation and criticism.
Despite earlier concerns, Embiid played in Tuesday’s game against the Golden State Warriors, only to exacerbate the injury after an encounter with Jonathan Kuminga.
Following this incident, the 29-year-old traveled back to Philadelphia as his teammates continued to Utah for a game against the Jazz, marking the end of their five-game road trip. The severity of Embiid’s injury suggests he will be sidelined for at least several weeks.
Before this setback, Embiid was enjoying a season that put him in contention for another MVP award, boasting averages of 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game, with a shooting accuracy of 53.3% over 34 games. However, with Embiid now likely to miss more games, his eligibility for NBA awards, including the MVP trophy, is in jeopardy, as players must participate in a minimum number of games to qualify.
