[Saba Sports News] A five-day Test match ended in as many sessions as a professional display of cricket from India saw them romp home with seven wickets remaining as they drew the Test series against South Africa 1-1.
Mohammed Siraj’s six-wicket haul in the first innings helped India bowl out South Africa for 55, the lowest score by a team against them in the Test format.
India too skittled at a score of 153, losing their last six wickets without scoring a single run.
While South Africa did not learn much from the first innings, their opener Aiden Markram showed fight, playing a knock for the ages. On a pitch, where no other batter could score a fifty, Markram smashed a hundred, taking the Proteas to 176.
Following Siraj’s footsteps, Jasprit Bumrah snared six wickets in the second innings.
Requiring 79 runs for the victory, Yashasvi Jaiswal gave India a quick-fire start. His 23-ball 28 set the tone for an easy run-chase. South Africa took three wickets in between but it proved to be too little in the end as India achieved the target with Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer staying unbeaten on 17 and four runs respectively.
With this, Rohit became the first Asian captain to win a Test match at the Newlands, Cape Town. He is now the second Indian skipper, who has drawn the Test series in South Africa.
