[Saba Sports News] Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant will miss the New Year’s Day game against the Portland Trail Blazers due to right hamstring soreness. This update follows a report by Shams Charania of The Athletic and an official injury update from the Suns.
Durant’s absence comes after a strong performance where he played 39 minutes and scored 31 points in a 112-107 victory over the Orlando Magic. His recent form has been impressive, with a notable assist-to-turnover ratio of 8-to-1 in the last four games.
The Suns, who are currently on a three-game winning streak and holding a 17-15 record, will also potentially miss backup guard Eric Gordon, listed as questionable due to right calf soreness. This situation challenges the team, which has been performing well and aligning with preseason predictions of being a top contender, especially with the trio of Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.
Beal, who returned from a lower back strain, is regaining his form, scoring 25 points in the last game against the Magic. Durant commented on Beal’s gradual return, noting the increase in his playtime and the positive impact it’s expected to have.
Durant, currently sixth in the NBA for scoring with an average of 29.9 points and second in 3-point percentage at 47.7%, will observe the team’s performance from the sidelines. The Suns have previously managed a win without Durant, notably against the Golden State Warriors on December 12th.
Beal, alongside Booker, is seen as a key player in the team’s strategy. Beal, with his experience, and Durant, as one of the top players in NBA history, are expected to significantly influence Booker’s growth as a point guard.
